  • Education in Cyprus

The educational system in Cyprus is accredited by European Union and provides a completed and well-rounded education to all students, Cypriots and International students. Every year Cyprus welcomes international students, which can study in all cycles of education and provide them the opportunity to flourish their knowledge, skills and personality to achieve their goals in life.

  1. Pre-Primary Education

Pre-Primary Schools

Education in Cyprus starts from the age of three years old. At Pre-Primary schools is given emphasis on very important values for the children such as personal development, team work and social skills, creativity, cooperative learning and of course respect of diversity. There is the opportunity for children to learn through enjoyable ways, so learning becomes fun and very interesting. It is important to note that there are Private and Public Pre-primary schools in all Cities of Cyprus. School daily attendance by schedule is from Monday to Friday between 07:30 – 13:05.

  1. Primary Education

Primary Schools

Primary School attendance is obligatory and all students must attend the primary school for 6 years in total. The children start primary school when they complete 5 years old and 8 months. Primary schools prepare the students with the appropriate basic principles of all sciences, in order to respond to the demands of Secondary Education. There are Public and Private Primary schools in all cities of Cyprus. School daily attendance by schedule is from Monday to Friday between 07:30 – 13:05.

  1. Secondary General Education (Lower and Higher Secondary)

The duration of the secondary general education is 6 years and it is the next level of Primary education, which means that the students are 12 to 18 years old. Secondary General Education is a very important stepping stone for the students because when they graduate from this cycle they get their “academic passport” for the University, the so called Cyprus Apolyterion (Graduation Certificate). Student’s attendance in this cycle of education is daily from Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 13:35.

Secondary General Education is divided to two parts, lower secondary school which is Gymnasium and higher secondary school which is Lyceum and Technical School.

       Gymnasium:

There are Public and Private Gymnasiums for students to attend and it’s important to mention that studies in Gymnasium last for three years. Students in Gymnasium are aged between 12 – 15 years old, and every academic quarter is given to their parents their academic grade report. Fall Academic Quarter is from September to mid – January, and Spring Academic Quarter is from mid – January till June.

Lyceum/Technical School

Lyceum and Technical school belong to the Higher Secondary General education part. There are Public and Private schools in this section for students to attend and it’s important to mention that studies in in higher secondary education last for three years. Students in Lyceum/Technical Schools are aged between 15 – 18 years old, and every academic quarter is given to their parents their academic grade report. There is the opportunity to learn many foreign languages such as English, Spanish, Italian and Russian. Fall Academic Quarter is from September to mid – January, and Spring Academic Quarter is from mid – January till June.

  1. Higher Education in Cyprus

Higher Education in Cyprus is highly accredited from Europe and recognised in an international level. There are higher educational institutions in all cities, where students can attend for undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D. degrees. The mode of attendance can be part-time or full-time. Cyprus Institutions every year welcome international students as they can provide English taught programs of studies.
